The Ozalenka Alpine Club near McBride, British Columbia, operates two backcountry cabins in the region. The original Ozalenka Hut was nearing its end of useful life and was due for replacement. Headwall Engineering assisted the club with the design of the new cabin, along with the structural engineering required to ensure that the new cabin did not suffer from the previous structure’s pitfalls; predominantly related to the large snow load prevalent in the Northern Cariboo Mountains.
Headwall completed several site visits to the area in conjunction with the Ozalenka Alpine Club, the contractor, and BC Parks. The building was designed to Part 4 of the BC Building Code and was completed in the summer of 2022.
